'Slippery' Comey was 'worst Federal Bureau of Investigation director in history'

Former FBI Director James Comey's forthcoming memoir depicts Donald Trump as a president "untethered to truth" and likened him to a mob boss.

"I don't know the guy", he added. The president's tweets - which also targeted Loretta Lynch, the attorney general under Trump's predecessor Barack Obama - came hours before a lengthy interview with the ex-FBI head was to air on ABC Sunday night. Mueller, however, has re-emerged at the center of the Trump legal drama - the special counsel named by the Justice Department to continue the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election begun under Comey.

"He is a weak and untruthful slime ball who was, as time has proven, a bad Director of the FBI", Trump tweeted.

The interviews are Comey's first public comments since he testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee last June, when he accused Trump of firing him to undermine the FBI's Russian Federation investigation.

House Republicans have repeatedly threatened to hold Justice Department officials in contempt as they have sought more than a million pages in documents related to Democrat Hillary Clinton and the beginning of the department's Russian Federation investigation.

Trump ripped Comey for acknowledging Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's lead in the 2016 presidential polls was a factor in how he handled the controversial Clinton email probe.

Comey is promoting his new book to be released this week, Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership.

The Washington Post described Comey's book as "scathing" while the New York Times headline said it offered "a grim view of Trump".

"I think it above all is a truthful portrayal of Jim's observations, his feelings and what occurred", Clapper said.

"Look, it's been very clear that James Comey is a self-admitted leaker", Sanders said.

Trump has said he fired Comey because of his handling of the FBI's investigation into Clinton's email practices. Comey details his conversations with Trump in the early weeks of 2017, noting how often Trump tried to isolate Comey one-on-one and elicit a pledge of loyalty.

On Sunday, on ABC's This Week, she said it was clear that Comey was a "leaker" by his own admission and "there is such a huge bipartisan consensus that James Comey doesn't have credibility and shouldn't have been leading the Federal Bureau of Investigation any longer".

And once the dust settles in this high stakes poker game, you've gotta wonder who will be holding the Trump card?

"James Comey, a man of integrity?"

The interview, conducted by George Stephanopoulos, took place in Comey's home in Virginia last Monday, according to Axios. In a promo for the interview, Stephanopoulos asks Comey: "How odd is it for you to sit here and compare the president to a mob boss?"
