Saudi king rejects USA plan to transfer embassy to Jerusalem

Saudi Arabia's King Salman joined Jordan's King Abdullah II on Sunday at the 29th Arab League Summit in condemning the US decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem.

The monarch called for the gathering to be renamed the "Jerusalem Summit" in solidarity with the Palestinian Authority, and called on the worldwide community to take a strong stance against Iran's aggression in the region.

In his speech at the summit, King Salman stressed that the Palestinian issue is "our first issue and will remain so" expressing his condemnation of the decision of the United States administration to transfer its embassy to Jerusalem.

"We reiterate our rejection of the U.S. decision on Jerusalem", the king said in a speech in in eastern Saudi Arabia. "We emphasize that East Jerusalem is an integral part of the Palestinian land".

King Salman vowed full support to all efforts aimed at reaching a political solution to the crisis in Yemen in accordance with the GCC Initiative as well as the decisions of the comprehensive national dialogue conference and the Security Council Resolution 2216.

"We underline the dangerousness of the Iranian behavior in the region", he said in an opening address to the gatherers after the presidency of the summit was transferred to him from last year's holder, Jordan.

"I name this summit in Dhahran the Jerusalem Summit so that the entire world knows Palestine and its people remain at the heart of Arab concerns", he said.

"We reject its blatant meddling in the internal affairs of Arab countries", declared King Salman.

The King said that the most unsafe of what the world is facing today is the challenge of terrorism, which has allied itself with extremism and sectarianism to produce internal conflicts infused by many Arab countries.

King Salman also affirmed his country's rejection of the intervention in the domestic affairs of the Arab countries and the "hostile" attempts to destabilize Arab national security, violating worldwide law. HM the King voiced appreciation for the warm welcome and gracious hospitality, while the Saudi monarch expressed thanks to HM the King for accepting the invitation for participate in the 29th Arab League Summit.
