Saudi air defenses intercept Houthi ballistic missile targeting Najran

On Wednesday, the kingdom's air defence forces intercepted three missiles fired towards Riyadh, Jizan and Najran.

On Sunday evening, the air defense system of the Arab alliance intercepted two ballistic missiles fired by the Houthi militias toward the Yemeni western coastal city of al-Mokha.

Coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Malki said during a press conference that the majority of the platforms are located in Yemen's Saada province.

Observers say that the Houthis are launching ballistic missiles against government-controlled provinces to stop the pressure on their forces and compensate their losses in the ongoing fighting across the country.

In a statement, the Saudi-backed government said the drones are "made in Iran", adding Yemen's military did not possess such aircraft and it was "impossible to manufacture them locally".

He also confirmed that the Houthis had launched a drone towards Saudi Arabia's Abha airport.

According to the security source, who preferred to remain anonymous, the escape followed a rebellion that erupted on Saturday inside the Political Security (Intelligence) prison controlled by Houthis in Al-Bayda province, Xinhua news agency reported.

The United Nations says the conflict has triggered the world's worst humanitarian crisis, as 22.2 million people need aid and 8.4 million are on the verge of starvation.
