Nuggets lose to Minnesota in overtime, eliminated from National Basketball Association playoff contention

Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau in the first quarter

The drought is finally over.

The Denver Nuggets lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in overtime Wednesday night in a must-win game. However, the Wolves were able to remain strong offensively and close out the game as they ended the longest drought for an National Basketball Association team not to make the playoffs.

And the game lived up to its billing. But seemingly in the blink of an eye, the Nuggets got back into it.

In the extra session, the Timberwolves kept Denver off the board for the final 2:28 while Jimmy Butler and Andrew Wiggins hit the free throws to seal it.

Jokic locked in a classic big man battled with Towns, finishing with 35 points and 10 rebounds, but he missed six of his last eight shots after the third quarter as Denver's late push fell a few points short.

Jimmy Butler and Karl-Anthony Towns have helped the Minnesota Timberwolves to a playoff spot this year.

Now it's the Timberwolves who are moving on to play, gulp, the NBA-best Houston Rockets in the first round.

The fact he hasn't done so even in his first two seasons seems to burn inside of him, much like the fact that he didn't win an NCAA title in his one season at Kentucky.
