As many as nine persons died in the blast and another five died in the subsequent police firing said to be aimed at controlling the mob.

A lawyer of one of the accused told reporters outside the Nampally criminal court complex that the court held that the prosecution failed to prove the charges.

The blast took place on May 18, 2007, when the Friday prayers were underway.

The hearing of the case was completed last week and IV Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge and Special Judge for NIA had fixed 16th April for pronouncing the judgment.

Soon after the blast a special investigation team (SIT) was constituted by the then Hyderabad police commissioner Balwinder Singh. Earlier, CBI was entrusted with the responsibility of investigating the case, later, the case was transferred to NIA. The accused arrested were - Devendra Gupta, Lokesh Sharma, Swami Aseemanand, Bharat Mohanlal Rateshwar and Rajendra Chowdhary.

Ten people allegedly belonging to right-wing organisations were named as accused in the case. Investigations were continuing against two other accused.

Two other accused, former RSS pracharak Sandeep V. Dange and electrician-cum-RSS activist Ramchandra Kalsangra from MP are absconding.

March 23, 2017: Aseemanad granted bail by Hyderabad court, paving way for his release from jail after seven years. The statements of 226 witnesses were recorded and 411 documents were examined in this case.

November 19, 2010: Jatin Chatterjee aka Swami Aseemanand, a member of the Hindu group Abhinav Bharat, arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
