Manchester City win the title: How pundits, managers, players reacted

Jesse Lingard netted the winner as Manchester United won 2-1 in the reverse fixture

Paul Pogba scored twice and Chris Smalling bagged the victor as Jose Mourinho's side produced a stunning turnaround from 2-0 down at the interval to win 3-2 and put City's Premier League title party on ice.

So in a way, after not being able to clinch the title last week against Manchester United and getting eliminated in the Champions League by Liverpool, clinching the Premier League without playing will seem bittersweet.

West Brom have become something of a bogey side for United, who have not done the league double over them since 2011-12 and the Old Trafford club will perhaps be happy to see them relegated to the Championship, should the seemingly inevitable be confirmed in the coming weeks.

"We didn't play simple, everything was slow, one more flick, trick, turn".

"They won because they were the best team, they lost only a few points".

"We were masters in complication, everything was complicated", said Mourinho.

West Brom have not been relegated but they surely will be soon, even after this result.

Mourinho threw on Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in the second half.

Jake Livermore had one decent effort saved by David De Gea and Lukaku smashed an effort right into Ben Foster's face but that was about it. Then, the Belgian sent a heading attempt at Foster, and he made the save.

That moment came in the 73rd minute when Jay Rodriguez finished off a wayward header by United's Nemanja Matic on the corner.

For a last placed team, West Brom played well against a strong United team.

The leadership of West Brom caretaker-manager Darren Moore has helped the players show "we actually know what we're doing", according to midfielder James McClean. "I want to bring a family atmosphere to the club". Today was a bad day and we need to move on. "Don't say City won the title because United did not win, it is not fair on them", he said.
