As expected, Ole Miss filed an objection to Shea Patterson's waiver request for immediate eligibility this season at MI. "He's going about his business and taking care of it nicely".
Worst case scenario for Patterson is that he is forced to sit out the 2018 season before being eligible to return in 2019.
MI was previously seemed optimistic that Patterson would be eligible to suit up, but now they will have to continue waiting with Ole Miss' latest objection and we will have to see if the NCAA ultimately determines the quarterback can suit up for the Wolverines' 2018 opener against Notre Dame on September 1. "With the waiver in question, the way it was written, we had no choice but to respond the way we did".
"With anyone who leaves our program, we wish them the best academically and athletically. It's an NCAA and MI matter at this point". Even if Ole Miss did not mislead Patterson - and there appears to be strong evidence it did - it doesn't get much lower than trying to impede a kid from leaving a situation entirely of its own doing.
"Whoever wrote that response for Ole Miss either wasn't paying attention past year or had a case of selective amnesia", Mars told CBS Sports. Patterson is applying for the eligibility waiver on the grounds that he was misled by former Rebs HC Hugh Freeze and staff as to the extent of sanctions that would be coming down on the program for rules violations.
Regardless, though, it's another black eye for an Ole Miss program that knows no shame.
Ole Miss's athletic director explained why they objected to Patterson's appeal.
Mars told the Detroit Free Press he'd never been more confident his client would be cleared to play this fall. "And there have been times I thought they were a lot higher", Mars told the Free Press on Tuesday.
"There are things that happen that cause you to change your confidence level, adjust it accordingly. But because of some recent events that are part of this process, my confidence about Shea being under center for MI this fall is at an all-time high".
That is believed to be the last step required before the NCAA rules on Patterson's waiver request.
