Trump condemns 'atrocious' attack in Syria, says major decision coming within 48 hours

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman vowed on Tuesday that Israel will not allow Iranian foothold in Syria, no matter what the cost will be.

Over 10 people were killed in the pre-dawn attack on the T-4 airbase near Homs.

Israeli officials have repeatedly warned against Iran's destabilizing activities in Syria and defined its continued presence there as a "red line", which Jerusalem is prepared to act against militarily.

On Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bahram Qassemi condemned the attack, which he called a "violation of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity" by Israel.

Russia, the main powerbroker in the region, is allied with dictator Bashar Assad, Iran, and Hezbollah in the Syrian civil war.

After bombing Iranian units in Syria in retaliation, an Israel F-16 was shot down by Syrian anti-aircraft fire in one of the conflict's most notable escalations. Ali Akbar Velayati, the top adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, on Tuesday described the strike on the Syrian military airbase as "Israel's crime", adding that it "will not remain without response", according to the Lebanese al-Mayadeen channel.

Russian Federation delivered a distinctive envoy, " Aleksandr Lavrentiev, to Tehran on Tuesday to explore the strike and "threats of army hindrance from Syria by the USA", Iran's state information agency, IRNA, reported.

However, Israel has carried out numerous strikes in Syria, with some meant to stop Iran and allies including the Lebanese group Hezbollah from gaining strength near its borders.

Israel has previously carried out at least one explicitly acknowledged attack on the Tiyas base, which it said was home to an Iranian drone program.

Velayati also said that there had been no chemical attack in the southern Syrian city of Douma over the weekend, as Western countries claimed. "Along the Gaza border, we don't let anyone touch us".
