IPL 2018: Shreyas Iyer Calls Comeback Effort from Bowlers 'Superb'

Jason Roy is all pumped up after hitting the winning runs against Delhi Daredevils at Mumbai Saturday

I am very happy.

Jason Roy smashed an unbeaten 91 as Delhi Daredevils defeated hosts Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in a last-ball thriller in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Mumbai yesterday. He, however, felt that 194 for 7 was a defendable target. "The comeback was fantastic by the bowlers and hopefully we keep continuing doing the same things", said local lad Shreyas Iyer who scored a modest 20-ball 27 on the night but more importantly held fort at one end as Jason Roy (91*) steered the visitors to victory.

MI got off to a splendid start of 84 without loss after the power-play of six overs which they improved to 102 through the opening wicket partnership of Suryakumar Yadav (53) and Evin Lewis (48).

"We were 10-15 runs short but still 180+ score is a good score on any ground". While fielding we wanted momentum and to take early wickets, but we could not get back.

"Obviously, we were expecting around 220 but the bowlers restricted them well in the middle and we really bowled well in patches". This is the first time in three years that the three-time champions have lost their first three matches.

A visibly disappointed Indians skipper Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation: "Disappointed not to finish one of those three games. It's a long tournament, we just need one game, then the momentum will be built from there". Delhi, coming in on the back of two defeats, replaced Colin Munro with Roy and the move proved to be beneficial for new skipper Gautam Gambhir. "It's great to be on the board". But now we have played three and won one. It was a slower pitch, we could have used the slower ball.

Delhi's positive intent came across when they promoted Pant to No.3 after Gambhir fell in the sixth over. The India all-rounder is capable of hitting towering sixes and has the knack of picking up wickets at crucial stages of the match, besides being an athletic fieldsman.

Watch how Mumbai's Hardik Pandya took a stunning running catch in the deep to dismiss Delhi's Glenn Maxwell. Shreyas Iyer played some excellent cricketing shots and eventually remained unbeaten on 27.

On opening the innings in T20s for the first time They came up to me yesterday and asked if I would like to bat higher up the order.

"As the situation demands, you have to be ready at any number you bat and all the players have to be on their toes", Iyer said.

"Sunrisers have some good bowlers, and on a given day you have to gauge who isn't bowling well and then go after him".

Looked pretty unsafe with the bat but could not go past 44 from 23 deliveries.
