Maria Saliagas claims that employees tied her to her wheelchair because she can't sit up on her own and they didn't have the chair she needed with straps to support her. She told WSB-TV that Delta usually accommodates her by providing a wheelchair with extra straps to keep her upright, but her son, Nathan, said Delta did not fulfill his request for the special wheelchair during her April 1 flight from Atlanta to Amsterdam.

An Atlanta woman who suffers from multiple sclerosis says she was tied to a wheelchair by Delta Airlines employees who brought the wrong chair to help her off a jetliner. "That's when that picture was taken", said her son.

"We regret the perception our service has left on these customers", the Delta spokesperson said. Once off the aircraft, according to Delta, several wheelchair options were offered to Saliagas and she picked one.

#Delta used a dirty blanket off of the floor to tie my mom to a broken wheelchair, with it so tight that it bruised her. Delta supervisor then cursed at her as she cried.

Maria Saliagas said the lack of disability services her family was promised by Delta is the reason why they took a photo and shared it.

A Delta representative told Business Insider that the airline had a different perspective on the incident.

"When she started crying, she was told to "shut the f- up" or she will be 'left there, '" he wrote.

"We are disappointed that our customers didn't have a satisfying travel experience and will ensure that their return flight exceeds expectations", the representative said.

The younger Saliagas said there is "a need for change" following the incident, which he called "highly inhumane".
