The boxer had run as a Republican for District 38 of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives but lost to Democratic incumbent William Kortz II. The boxer had no luck there and lost the race too.
His demise was welcomed by many boxing fans watching online, with one writing: "Rod Salka wore "America 1st" and a wall pattern on his trunks against Mexican fighter Francisco Vargas".
Although, you'd have to imagine that Salka had every right to be confident - he had won his five previous fights before the Vargas bout and must have harboured a genuine belief that he could beat him. A boxer got his troll on by wearing anti-immigrant trunks and got his ass mollywhopped by his Mexican opponent.
They were also decorated with images of bricks, a symbol of President Donald Trump's plans to build a wall between Mexico and the United States. The fight ended there and Salka who tried to make a political statement with his actions got defeated by his Mexican opponent. They were presumably anxious about the huge cut that his Mexican opponent had opened up above his eye.
After several rounds of punishment Salka's corner chose to throw the towel in between rounds and Salka was out on his chair.
It wasn't the first time Salka has had to retire from a fight.
It was an unsanctioned fight, a decision that was vindicated after Garcia knocked Salka out cold in just the second round in Brooklyn.
