BBC Breakfast Presenter Mike Bushell Falls Into Swimming Pool During Live Interview

Breakfast presenter Mike Bushell's Wednesday morning didn't go exactly as planned when he fell into a swimming pool in the middle of a live TV interview.

England's gold medalists Adam Peaty, Sarah Vasey and Siobhan Marie O'Connor burst into fits of laughter while Ben Proud and James Guy held their head in their hands.

But a second later, having failed to notice there was another step beneath his feet, Bushell slipped into the deeper water with a splash.

'All the people here are literally on the floor, ' he told viewers, referring to the crew off-camera.

The interview was cut short though as Mike's sound equipment appeared to suffered some water damage.

Bushell did attempt to carry on but Vasey was unable to stop laughing and back in the studio, Louise Minchin and Charlie Stayt were unable to hear him because his soundpack had stopped working.

'Bye, Mike, it hasn't been tiresome'.

"I just thought it was a little Jacuzzi or a kids' pool", he said, adding, "I didn't realize there was a step there".

Things took a turn for the deep end however when the presenter didn't realise there was a step, taking a plunge and almost submerging his microphone into the water.

Minchin said: "If you were going to set that up, you would imagine that might happen, and it did - live on national television".

You can catch BBC Breakfast weekdays on BBC One at 6am.

Shortly after announcing he "had to be careful" when interviewing the swimmers, whose competition finished yesterday in Australia's Gold Coast, Mike Bushell took a dip of his own after missing a step in the pool.
