Baggies Hand City Premier League Title After Shock United Win
After all their efforts to stop City from clinching the league in their 3-2 derby win last week, United offered a clear reminder of why they have not been serious contenders for the title this year with an abject display, lacking in creativity.
Manchester City bagged the Premier League for the fifth time in history as they previously won it in 1937, 1968, 2012 and 2014.
Jose Mourinho, Manager of Manchester United reacts during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford on November 25, 2017 in Manchester, England.
"I trust in my work", he said. "City won the title because they won more points than everyone else, don't tell City they won title because United did not win, it is not fair on them".
The United manager also gave a strong defence of his own record, listing some of his achievements with Chelsea, Real Madrid and Porto, after being asked how United could expect to overhaul Pep Guardiola's team next season.
Manchester City have won the Premier League title after Manchester United were beaten by West Brom on Sunday.
Just as the Red Devils were beginning to knock on the door, West Brom took a shock lead when Rodriguez converted a simple close-range header from a corner, having been inadvertently teed up by Nemanja Matic. They lost only two matches, that is why they were champions.
"The easy thing would have been to out against Sevilla and then collapse in the Premier League, in the sense that motivation goes down and the quality goes down".
'Everything was slow. Everyone was one more touch, one more trick, one more flick, one more turn.
"We are a team that has already more points than last season, a team that's had brilliant matches and a team that showed character many times". Better than Sir Alex Ferguson's United title winners?
He added: "They won the title because they were the best team".
Ander Herrera had a strong penalty appeal turned down in the first half and Romelu Lukaku forced a good point-blank save from Ben Foster but West Brom were otherwise largely untroubled. "Everyone is disappointed. We didn't play well at all and it's a bad afternoon for us".
'We were deservedly punished, ' Mourinho said. "Eight titles are eight titles and three Premier Leagues are three Premier Leagues", he said.
