Athletics-New, relaxed Farah ready to mix it in the marathon

She hasn't got long: Katie Price admits mum could die within a month

"The team at the London Marathon have put together an fantastic field with guys like Eliud Kipchoge and Daniel Wanjiru", Farah said. I'm ranked 27th in the world and I'm just going to stick to my plan. "When I ran the marathon in 2014 I had to think about saving energy for the track but this year I've gone hard at it".

Twelve men in Sunday's field have run faster than Farah, with Kenenisa Bekele and Eliud Kipchoge, the second and third-fastest men in history, among those a full three minutes quicker and defending champion Daniel Wanjiru one of four with a 2:04-something to their names.

The 25-year-old from Mile End is in training for Sunday's 26-mile run in memory of her grandmother who died last year who had sight impairment.

"When I prepared in 2014, I did so knowing I wanted to continue running on the track, so I didn't want to lose my speed".

Farah finished eighth in 2014 - his first and only race over 26.2 miles - but is hoping that his switch to focusing exclusively on marathon distance, having hung up his track spikes previous year, will pay dividends.

Since leaving Alberto Salazar and the track behind, Farah has teamed up with Gary Lough, the husband of women's marathon record holder Paula Radcliffe, and says he has learnt a lot from his new coach.

The men's marathon world record has been broken in London before when U.S. runner Khalid Khannouchi ran a time of 2:05.38 back in 2002. Having a new challenge has made me feel more relaxed.

"That's what it will take for me to medal in Tokyo".

Since switching to the marathon past year Farah is no longer coached by Alberto Salazar and his Nike Oregon project, which is still under investigation by US anti-doping authorities.

Farah, who on Tuesday described Lough as a genius, is still working with strength coach Dave McHenry, who has never featured in the allegations being investigated by USADA but who has been involved with the Oregon Project for more than 10 years.

"I watched and I wondered whether I could have done that double", he said.
