Arab League Summit Condemns Alleged Use of Chemical Weapons by Damascus

Saudi aims to put pressure on Iran at Arab League summit

The Omani Deputy Prime Minister for Cabinet Affairs Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said arrived at King Abdulaziz Air Base in Dhahran yesterday for the 29th Arab League summit.

His Majesty will also lead Jordan's delegation to the summit.

HM King Hamad expressed optimism that King Salman's wise leadership will consolidate Arab countries' worldwide presence and enable them to work effectively and constructively with allies and friends as essential parties that determine the course of the regional and global challenges they face, particularly foreign interference and ambitions, which, he said, requires more solidarity and cooperation as the best means to unify the Arab entity and ensure its security and stability.

In his speech at the summit, King Salman stressed that the Palestinian issue is "our first issue and will remain so" expressing his condemnation of the decision of the U.S. administration to transfer its embassy to Jerusalem.

The Saudi King also presented the kingdom's initiative and willingness to deal with the challenges that the Arab national security is facing.

On Saturday, the umbrella Arab League said the summit will not discuss Gulf crisis, which was triggered by last year's cut-off of diplomatic ties between four Arab states and Qatar amid accusations for Doha of supporting terrorism.

In a ministerial meeting that was held on Thursday, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir said that Palestine and the situation there will top discussions at the Arab summit.

Summit kicked off in Saudi Arabia's eastern city of Dhahran on Sunday, with leaders from 22 member states attending it.

Mr Trump then told reporters that the relationship between the two countries was "probably the strongest it has ever been", adding: "We understand each other".
