Alexis Sanchez Thanked Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger Over Text Message

Brendan Rodgers

His number of games will increase between now and the end of the season, of course, but there's a good chance he will also make it 18 trophies.

Arsenal haven't won the Premier League title since 2004 and now face a second successive season where they will finish outside the top four.

Moyes expects world football will be put on alert by the news - whether the 68-year-old decides to stay on in management or call it a day.

Tributes poured in from players past and present on Friday, as well as Wenger's adversaries over the past two decades, such as Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho, for his longevity and the revolution in English football he helped inspire.

Chile global Sanchez left Arsenal in January, having been lured to the Gunners from LaLiga giant Barcelona by Wenger in 2014.

Sanchez spent just over three years at Arsenal and has since joined Manchester United to realise his "dream", so he's not overly popular amongst Gooners nowadays.

And the 31-year-old took to Twitter on Saturday to thank his former manager for improving him as a player.

"I texted him (Wenger) yesterday to wish him the best", Sanchez said.

"I have a feeling we are going to see him as a manager of an worldwide side and his biggest fan will be me, saying 'come on, get France back into being a decent side, Arsene!'"

"It's sad because he is a football legend; a gentleman who shows respect and professionalism, and I only have words of gratitude for him".

"There were a lot of tactical aspects to his style which I wanted to add to my game so I´m even stronger in the future".

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Ozil said: "He's the main reason I came here, he convinced me and I am proud to have played under him".
