(G.N.S) DT.15 In a freakish incident, a passenger used a fountain pen as a weapon to hold a flight attendant hostage on Air China's Beijing-bound flight today. The flight took off from Changsha, the capital of southern Human province and was scheduled to arrive at the Beijing Capital International Airport during afternoon 1:00 pm (China's local time).
"By 13.17 the incident had been settled successfully". Passengers and crew were unharmed.
"An investigation showed the man used a fountain pen [to take the hostage]".
Chinese police said the 41-year-old passenger arrested in the incident had a "history of mental illness", the news agency reported. The passengers were provided with another flight to continue their journey to Beijing.
After the landing, all passengers were evacuated to the terminal's hall, according to the Henan Province Airport Group, the airport's owner and operator. They added that the airport is operating normally.
In an official statement, the Civil Aviation Administration of China said that a male passenger onboard Air China Flight 1350, attempted to use the pen to hold the flight attendant "under duress".
The police and civil aviation authorities were handling the situation, the Air China made the nscheduled stop due to "public safety reasons".
