The encounter that started between the government forces and militants last night in Dooru area of south Kashmir's Islamabad district has ended with the killing of two militants, police said today.

The encounter has highlighted gaps in the Army's vigil along the Line of Control (LoC) as the group of militants had managed to sneak in almost 8 km after crossing two ridges of the Shamsabari mountain range, reports PTI.

"The possible loopholes were pin-pointed and steps to plug them discussed", sources said.

The security forces that included Indian Army, Anantnag Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) also recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition following the encounter.

The identities of the slained terrorist are yet to be ascertained.


The official said the encounter is over and arms and ammunition have been recovered from the site.

In the said encounter no collateral damage has taken place and security forces are now sanitizing the area, a spokesman said.

"Speaking on the encounter, the Northern Command of the Indian Army earlier tweeted: "#IndianArmy #OpShistargam (#Anantnag) Two #Terrorists killed in Joint Operation. However, initial reports suggest, of the two slain militants, one was identified as local and another foreigner.

The area has been cordoned off and internet and train services have also been suspended, added the reports.
