Additionally, the Twins announced that they will be holding their second annual "Prince Night" against the Los Angeles Angels on Jun. 8, featuring an inflatable guitar giveaway to the first 10,000 fans in attendance. The report also says that the merchandising deal, a co-branding one, is believed to be the first of its kind in Major League Baseball. Shirts and Prince-branded baseballs will also be available, with all items sold exclusively at the Twins' Target Field, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "After the seventh inning stretch, those with the guitars will be asked to remain standing and illuminate them for a special remembrance".
As the Minnesota Star Tribune notes, the inaugural Prince Night at the park proved a resounding success, with thousands of fans turning out to help pay tribute - and try to get their hands on one of 10,000 special Prince-themed umbrellas, some of which have since hit the secondary market for prices in excess of $100.
As part of the "Prince Night" festivities, the team is selling packages that include an exclusive purple Twins/Prince hat.
In 2017, the Minnesota Twins went purple for a night to celebrate the life and legacy of Prince, one of the most famous residents of Minneapolis (and one of the greatest musicians of all time, of course). "Fans must purchase the special Prince Theme Night package to receive the hat".
Fans of Prince will no doubt have mixed feelings about this new brand partnership.
