Trump says watching courts before acting on gun age limits

U.S. President Donald Trump responds to a reporter's question about North Korea as he departs the White House Washington DC U.S. for a day trip to suburban Pittsburgh Pennsylvania for a Make America Great Again rally supporting Republican candidate

Florida senator Marco Rubio was also dismissive of the idea of arming teachers.

Trump's new plan focuses on "hardening" schools with increased security and expresses support for boosting some background checks. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos will chair the commission, which will then provide recommendations to the president.

At one point, Sanders was asked outright by a reporter why Trump "chickened out", but she insisted his ideas in the meeting were still a part of the plan. But that doesn't mean that he has wiped away some of those other things.

"You have a different President", Trump said in his meeting with lawmakers. "They have less power over me". But you can buy the kind of weapon used in the school shooting at 18. This was less than 24 hours after Trump, at a campaign appearance in Pennsylvania, had said, "We can't just keep setting up blue-ribbon committees", adding that all they did was "talk, talk, talk".

But the White House plan released Sunday does not address the minimum age for gun purchases. The problem, this Republican says, is that Trump rushed into the debate with gut instincts but little grasp of gun policy.

"Let's not forget that the Obama administration had the White House and all of Congress for two years and didn't do anything", she said. Since nearly immediately after the Parkland shooting, the president has advocated arming some teachers as a solution to stopping future massacres.

US President Donald Trump holds up a signed memorandum recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital, as US Vice President looks on, at the White House, on December 6, 2017. "We absolutely do not need more guns in schools or to fortress our schools like prisons".

After all, major legislation that has passed during his presidency - like tax reform for instance - was largely driven from inside Congress, with the President offering support but not dictating the shape of proposed laws.

The administration's proposals includes backing the so-called Fix NICS bill, which seeks to improve National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS.

Gun-control advocates said the president missed a crucial opportunity to lead. "No stone will be unturned".

Meanwhile, the Justice Department is reviewing whether it can ban bump stocks through the regulatory process. Bump stocks are banned. "We're still looking at how best we can move forward".

On Friday, it filed a lawsuit contesting Florida's new age limit law.

"We send our sons and daughters over to Afghanistan, in Iraq", at age 18, Johnson said. "I think if they do that, they ought to be able to buy a hunting rifle".

But as far as the American public is concerned, Trump is ― to put it mildly ― incorrect.

He had also accused members of his own party of being "petrified" of the National Rifle Association (NRA).

At the same meeting February 28 with lawmakers where he discussed raising the gun-buying age, Trump alarmed gun rights activists by suggesting he would confiscate guns from people who posed threats, then "go through due process".

The Florida school shooting survivor appeared on CNN Monday night to challenge the president on his recent reversals from some gun control measures.

Even for a man who changes his policy views as often as most people change their socks, President Donald Trump's weekend roundabout on the guns and schools was head-spinning. He wanted to give police the right to seize guns from people who could pose a danger.
