Russia's Olympic Ban lifted By The IOC

1st time in 20 years Russian hockey players advance to Olympics finals after beating Czechs 3-0

"There were doubts regarding our decision to take part at the Olympics, but now I'm sure not one person doubts that the gold medal in the men's ice hockey was won by the Russian team, not some other team". The only Russians at the March 8-18 Pyeongchang Games will be known as "Neutral Paralympic Athletes", mirroring the IOC's compromise.

Russia's Olympic membership has been restored, according to the head of the country's Olympic Committee (ROC).

In a statement following the IOC Executive Board decision last week, the Institute of National Anti-Doping Organisations (iNADO) expressed its disappointment with the IOC's intention to reinstate Russian Federation.

The IOC ordered Russian Federation to compete in South Korea under the OAR banner due to the manipulation of the doping scheme which was uncovered at their home Sochi 2014 Games.

The anti-doping body said the International Olympic Committee had failed to deliver a proportionate punishment, "requirements to acknowledge Russia's broken system and take significant steps to fix it, was required".

However, Bach said: "There is no evidence of systemic doping and no evidence of the involvement of the Russian Olympic Committee in these cases".

Russia's Olympic Ban lifted By The IOC

The IOC decision to reinstate Russian Federation has no bearing on the International Paralympic Committee's earlier ruling to maintain the country's ban.

To bolster its credibility, the International Olympic Committee needs a long period without a succession of Russian doping violations, says Sky's Nick Powell.

WADA declared that Russian Federation "remains non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code".

All the remaining tests on the Olympic Athlete from Russia (OAR) team came back negative, the IOC said.

Although Russian authorities said the country's Olympic team had been decimated by the IOC decision not to invite some top competitors, Russians in Pyeongchang faired similarly to their compatriots who competed in Vancouver. "There's still a lot of work to be done which is likely to be as hard as the work to reinstate the ROC", Zhukov said.

"I would like to thank our athletes who were able to perform well even despite the provocations". So while the Russian Olympic Committee is readmitted to the Olympic fold, RUSADA is still some way off meeting WADA's compliance conditions.
