Russian Federation says reinstated by International Olympic Committee

Coe says the IAAF will not allow Russia to compete until a taskforce is satisfied they have met doping control conditions

The head of Russia's Olympic Committee (ROC) has claimed that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has reinstated his organisation's membership.

The team of athletes from Russian Federation won 17 medals - two gold, six silver and nine bronze.

"Now they are waiting for the end of the skier and hockey player tests".

"The rights of the Russian Olympic Committee have been fully restored", said the president of the Russian Olympic Committee, Alexander Zhukov. "It's a decision of the utmost importance for us".

They had all been required to prove they were clean before the Games.

Russia's team was banned from participating in the 2018 Olympic Games in South Korea.

On Sunday, the IOC announced that Russia, which has repeatedly denied any state involvement in doping, would be automatically readmitted so long as there were no more doping violations."The final notification of all remaining test results from the Olympic Athlete from Russia (OAR) delegation has been received", said the IOC in a statement on Wednesday.

The OAR team was the third largest and won 17 medals, including two golds.

Russian Federation was banned in December from taking part in the 2018 Olympics following revelations of widespread doping, though 168 athletes were deemed "clean" and were cleared to go to Pyeongchang to compete under the Olympic flag.

Allegations of the country's doping programme had first surfaced in 2015, with whistleblowing doctor Grigory Rodchenkov, director of Russia's anti-doping laboratory during the Sochi Games, a key figure.

Widespread doping by Russian athletes at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games was exposed by an independent report for the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Russian Federation is also banned from the 2018 Winter Paralympics in March but, again, some athletes will compete as neutrals.
