Roy Hodgson pleased with "vitally important" Crystal Palace win

Huddersfield 0-2 Crystal Palace

Roy Hodgson admitted his Crystal Palace side are not even considering relegation from the Premier League after beating Huddersfield.

Zaha had been sidelined for almost seven weeks with injury, with Palace losing all four games without him and he was a constant threat to the Huddersfield defence all the game.

"We were not good enough in ball possession, we gave the ball away too easily and were not calm enough", he added. He is an outlet for us.

The victory moved Palace up to 16th place, on 30 points, a point behind Huddersfield, who are 15th, and with bottom pair Stoke and West Brom losing, it was the flawless day for Hodgson and his team.

Hodgson said: "We were breaking out on quite a few occasions and getting the ball up the field and, of course, Wilf carries the ball".

"On a couple of occasions he was stopped by a foul and the referee gave the free-kicks, but he took a couple of knocks".

Zaha limped off in the 89th minute but Hodgson said he did not think the winger had picked up a serious injury.

"He got stronger as the game went on".

It was Palace's first win since January 13, while Huddersfield had hoped to take advantage of another home fixture against a relegation rival after being held to a goalless draw by Swansea last week.

"It is a defeat that I am able to deal with because I know exactly where we went wrong", German Wagner told reporters. "We are getting players back to fitness and our squad is looking like what it was when we were getting results".

He said: "We've tried to avoid discussing that certainly as a team because we know that with seven games to go there's going to be twists and turns".

"We have had a hard run of games and not got any points but to get something here at least puts us back in some sort of equilibrium".
