PM salutes brave CRPF personnel who were martyred in attack in Sukma

At least nine personnel of the 212 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed in a powerful IED blast by Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Tuesday.

ASI RKS Tomar, constable Ajay Kumar Yadav, constable Manoranjan Lanka, constable Jitendra Singh, constable Shobhit Sharma, constable Manoj Singh, constable Dharmendra Singh, constable Chandra HS and head constable Lakshman lost their lives in the blast.

Two jawans out of eleven in the vehicle sustained injuries and were airlifted to Raipur for treatment. Also, reports are coming that the forces are conducting the area-domination operation in the forest of Kistaram when the Maoists blew up the CRPF's mine-protected vehicle.

Sukma Superintendent of Police had rushed to the spot with extra force and rescue operation had begun to safely evacuate the victims, he said. Officials added that the first encounter took place at 8 am and later this contingent was targeted.

He said, the IED blast in Sukma is deeply distressing.

Six CRPF personnel were injured, out of which 4 are critical.

Chief Minister Raman Singh condemned the "cowardly and shameful" attack and said the rebels were afraid that development works would put an end to their activities.

Attacking the Centre, Gandhi said the incident reflected a "deteriorating" internal security situation due to "flawed policies".

Home minister Rajnath Singh expressed his condolences to the families of the personnel who were killed. According to officials, personnel from the 74th Battalion of CRPF were ambushed after emerging from their camp to secure an under-construction road in the area.

12 jawans of the CRPF were killed in the same district in March past year.

Previous year in April, 25 paramilitary personnel were killed in a deadly Naxalite attack in the district.
