Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called for an all-party meeting today (March 13) at his residence to find a solution to the ongoing sealing drive in Delhi.
To protest against the ongoing sealing drive by the municipal corporations in the national capital, the traders in Delhi have made a decision to observe a "trade bandh" on Tuesday. The BJP did not take part in it.
Mr. Kejriwal had on Sunday written to Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari and Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken asking them to attend the meeting at his residence to come up with solutions to end the sealing drive.
A Trade Bandh has been implemented in the major market areas of Delhi, as a way to protest the sealing of shops, which is being carried out by the municipal corporations on the direction given by the Supreme court committee.
In a letter to Mr. Kejriwal, Delhi BJP general secretary Kuljeet Singh Chahal said there was no point in attending the meeting since the "intentions of the Delhi government are not clear on the matter".
The retaliation wasn't too long in the coming, with deputy CM Manish Sisodia taking to Twitter to say, "The sealing has snatched the sources of livelihoods of many traders, but the president of Delhi BJP which has to find a solution is touring foreign countries".
After the meeting, Maken said it was a fruitful discussion on the issue.
Khandelwal said that a moratorium bill for sealing by the Central government should be brought in the current session of Parliament.
The court held the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the state government and Centre responsible for the non-implementation of the sealing drive despite being ordered back in 2006.
Meanwhile, Mr. Maken, while addressing a gathering of the Delhi Traders Congress, said there were provisions in the Master Plan for Delhi-2021 to protect traders and there was no point in passing a new law.
The sealing drive - shutting of illegal establishments - started late a year ago on the directions of the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee.
