"At Google Maps, our objective has always been about organizing all location-related information and making it more accessible and relevant for Indian users".
Other benefits pointed out by Google state that "Plus Codes" is free of any licensing codes, that they will work regardless of whether user is online or offline, that the system independent of borders - ensuring that it works in "disputed territories", that they can be printed as a grid on paper and finally, that it's not limited to the internet or digital devices. Maps in India has supported Plus codes for some months now, and these will now be reflected in addresses and businesses as well.
So, this way you can use plus code to search and find places in Google Maps.
The Plus Codes is not the only feature Google announced on Tuesday. This feature can also be found inside the Maps application.
The tech giant introduced "Plus Codes" - an open source solution that represents a simple and consistent addressing system and works not only in India but globally. "This code simply comprises a 6-character + City format that can be generated, shared and searched by anyone - all that's needed is Google Maps on a smartphone", says Ruhela. Address search is critical for delivering on this mission. All you need to do copy the Plus Code and enter the same in the Google Maps Search Bar. The likes of temporary events, guiding emergency services to afflicted locations, finding complicated addresses and more can be easily done with this openly sourced feature. We are pretty sure users will come with different use cases once they start using Plus Codes more.
Goole has also introduced new "Add an Address" option on Google Maps.
Note that you cannot manually create the Plus code but what you can do is save your address on Google Maps which will automatically generate the unique code for you.
If a user is unaware of the exact address and Maps does not understand the address precisely but he or she knows about the nearby landmarks or locality, "Smart Address Search" would use all the pieces of the information provided in the address and user could best identify the area. Google is also adding voice navigation search in India in six additional languages - Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam - on the Android app. The service is already supported with the language Hindi, introduced three years ago. Just like we add businesses, we can also submit new or missing addresses through this feature. The Plus Code address format has 6 characters followed by a local code. Well, it is true that few addresses can be quickly spotted with accurate street names and house numbers while there are other locations which takes long time.
"Millions of people and places in India are hard to locate - especially those in remote areas. We are deeply committed to helping find solutions to these challenges", Ruhela added.
In Google Maps, open the "More Info" page of any place, restaurant, building, etc. Scroll down to find the plus code for the location.
