The Hayes brothers more often write horror movies than any other genre, though they do have a few action projects sprinkled here and there, and have at least one in development.
The franchise has gone on to produce a number of video games, and a comic book, and later in 2017 was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. The film is rumored to be an origin story of sorts, in which we see a younger actor portray McClane as a (relatively) regular cop in 1970s NY.
Since the last two installments in the "Die Hard" franchise were poorly received, it is interesting to see how the Hayes will revive the franchise. He previously directed Live Free or Die Hard, the PG-13 Die Hard movie that had John McClane launching a vehicle at a helicopter and taking down a fighter jet, and now he wants to do an origin story for Bruce Willis' iconic cop.
Willis first portrayed McClane in the 1988 film "Die Hard", which was a phenomenal hit.
