MIUI 9 Stable ROM now rolling out to all eligible Xiaomi phones

The MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM for Redmi Note 4 and Mi Max 2 is being released in batches. The eligible Xiaomi phones to get the MIUI 9 update include - Mi MIX 2, Mi Note 3, Mi 6, Mi Max 2, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 4X, Redmi Note 5A, Redmi 4, Redmi 4X, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite, Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Mi Max, Mi Max Prime, Redmi Note 3, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S, Redmi 3S Prime, Redmi 4, Redmi 4A, Mi Note, Mi 4i, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi Note 4G Prime, Redmi Note 2, Mi 4, Redmi Note 4G, Mi 3, and Mi 2.

For India, Xiaomi engineers at Bengaluru R&D have created custom-made features in MIUI 9 Global ROM such as Hindu festival cards, Panchang calendar, stickers and many more.

Xiaomi announced the MIUI 9 back in November previous year.


The MIUI 9 update, which promises major design tweaks and performance improvements, is finally here. The list of devices even includes some of the oldest devices from the company, such as the Redmi 1S and the Mi 3 smartphones that were launched four years ago. Many of these smartphones have already started receiving the latest update.

If you haven't installed the MIUI 9 Global ROM, you can follow the below procedure to get the software on your Xiaomi phone.

MIUI 9 also brings dynamic resource allocation that understands how to in-use apps for a more fluid experience overall. You can also download the update directly from the Mi downloads page. Xiaomi will launch the Redmi 5 at 3 pm on Wednesday (14 March) in India. However, for the ones who have never flashed an Android device, it is advisable to wait for the official OTA update from Xiaomi.

It needs to be noted that Xiaomi is seeding an operating system based on Android 7.0 Nougat at a time when Google is preparing to release Android 9.0 or Android P. The camera on Redmi 5 packs a 12-megapixel primary camera with big pixels for better images on the rear and a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies. The Redmi Note 5 runs MIUI 9 out-of-the-box.
