Launch window for SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket schedule to open around midnight

SpaceX Rocket Falcon 9

That delay forced SpaceX to stand down until after another launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station - the successful GOES-S weather satellite launch Thursday (March 1) on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket.

Coverage of the launch begins at 12 a.m. Eastern time from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and the company has about two hours to get the rocket up before the launch window closes.

Forecasters expect 90 percent "go" conditions for the liftoff, according to the Air Force's 45th Weather Squadron.

SpaceX said it was standing down to perform additional testing on the rocket's fairing's pressurization system.

The company intends to launch a Hispasat 30W-6 spacecraft, a Spanish commercial communications satellite, to a geostationary transfer orbit, according to NASA.

Tonight's launch will be the first launch for SpaceX from Cape Canaveral since the record-breaking Falcon Heavy launch on February 6.

It's unclear at the moment if SpaceX's Hispasat 30W-6 mission will feature a landing attempt by the Falcon 9's first stage, but a touchdown try seems likely.
