CRPF jawan Manoranjan Lenka, who was among its nine personnel killed in an IED blast in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday was on Wednesday cremated at his native village in Puri district with state honours. "It's time to end their menace", the CM added. "People of the country hope that this will not be repeated and the Centre is alert over it".
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh have expressed their condolences over the incident, and the Centre has been thinking seriously to ensure the security of its jawans and avoid such incidents in future, the Minister of State for Home Affairs said.
"An encounter took place with Naxals at 8am and seeing the response of 208 CoBRA, the Naxals fled away". To a question on yesterday's Naxal attack, he said there was no lack of intelligence inputs. The reason for the new camps was that the force didn't want its troops to travel several kilometres back to headquarters after operations or area domination exercises.
Officials also believe that over 150 armed cadres of PLGA were involved in a major gun battle with security forces the same morning and a small contingent of the Maoist group planted the 80-100kg improvised explosive device (IED) that claimed the lives of nine CRPF troopers.
The CRPF personnel were martyred on Tuesday when a landmine blast blew up their patrolling vehicle in Sukma district. The following jawans belonged to 212 battalion.
