Golovkin labels Alvarez a drug cheat

The recent drug controversy began on March 5 when Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs), the lineal champion at 160 pounds, tested positive for trace amounts of the banned substance clenbuterol and blamed the result on contaminated meat in Mexico.

Most recently, Golovkin hosted a group of reporters and media at his camp in Big Bear, California.

"I told you, it's not Mexican meat".

"If that fight can't happen the next step for me is Saunders, since it is my dream to get all the world championship belts", Golovkin said, as per the Daily Mail.

"I'm looking forward to it you know, I'm very excited about it for that fight I believe I'm possibly the hardest puncher in the whole division".

An investigation is now being carried out into Canelo's positive drug test and Canelo's team believes that the results will clear everything up. This is his promotion.

"This guy, he knows", Golovkin said of Alvarez's claims of taking the substance by accident.

"What we are seeing is that Golovkin is simply demonstrating that he is a human being, for the first time he is acting like a boxer".

GGG said that if Canelo wanted to really clear his name and prove that he is a clean fighter, he should subject himself to a lie detector test. Canelo's team have denied all of the allegations and claimed that Canelo has always been a clean fighter and the stats prove that.

While one judge scored the fight for Golovkin and another had it even, there was astonishment at the card of a judge who marked it 118-110 in favour of Alvarez. "It was pretty obvious when [Alvarez's] muscles were all [enlarged]. and with the traces of injections, which were visible", Golovkin said, per ESPN. The Nevada Athletic Commission hasn't decided whether it will block the big-money bout, but Golovkin said he will go ahead with the fight despite his feelings. He also blasted Golden Boy's founder, Oscar De La Hoya, alluding to the fact that De La Hoya was also a cheater. He is also not clean.

GENNADY GOLOVKIN has accused Canelo Alvarez of injecting himself before their controversial draw last September.

Wednesday's rant wouldn't be the first time Golovkin, 35, publicly doubted Alvarez's excuse for the failed test.

Eric Gomez, the president of De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, responded sharply to Golovkin's comments.

"He doesn't sound like a confident fighter", Gomez wrote. "It sounds like he wants to try to find a way out of the fight". "Before the first fight, I knew he was not clean".

'If that's what he wants, he should just say so. Just last week he said the exact opposite. He didn't need motivation for this fight, but now he's got added motivation. But with Canelo now under investigation, the fight could be called off if he is found to be guilty. Many boxing fans, pundits and commentators feel that Canelo is getting an easy ride of things from the WBC and WBA in particular, publicly declaring Canelo's innocence despite the lack of an investigation from those two organisations in particular.
