So Fitbit went back to the drawing board, and its new smartwatch - the $200 Versa - is designed for everyone, not just dudes with giant wrists. But I'm eager to try the new health-tracking features that will really set the Versa apart.
If anything, it looks somewhere inbetween the Apple Watch 3 and a Fitbit Ionic. One downside of buying the Versa instead of the Ionic is that it theoretically lasts one day lesser (4 days vs 5 days). The peach variant which also comes with a rose gold aluminum case will cost you Rs 21,999.
While many of Pebble's smartwatches were characterised by playful rounded corners and refined edges, the Ionic was considerably more utilitarian in design, with a boxy display and sharp corners.
Fitbit will soon be introducing "Quick Replies", which let you send quick pre-populated or customisable replies to text messages and instant messenger apps (Android only). There are also Special Edition options in lavender or charcoal, which come with canvas bands that are only available with the Special Edition.
With the new Versa, to reach the lower price point Fitbit dumped a few features, most significantly onboard Global Positioning System tracking.
Fitbit has made their new range of activity trackers official. After copious requests from users, the company is adding period tracking to its app. "This exciting development by Fitbit could help potentially create one of the largest databases of menstrual health metrics in the world, providing healthcare and research professionals with an unprecedented ability to study menstrual cycles and women's health with real world data".
"Most technology products aren't designed with women in mind first", Chase said. If interested in that, you can learn more here.
The biggest addition to Fitbit's software is the introduction is "female health tracking", allowing you to track your menstrual cycle, and see how it connects to your overall health. But Fitbit is obviously hoping that you will.
Fitbit's line of new products for Spring also includes a fitness tracker for kids called the Fitbit Ace, based in Fitbit's thin, plastic Alta model. The Fitbit Ace arrives during the second quarter of 2018.
There have also been some tweaks to the way in which data is displayed on your wrist in what Fitbit is calling an integrated dashboard. The Versa looks just like Apple'swearable from a distance, but also like the Pebble Steel. The navigation is completely different, with three buttons to Apple Watch's button-crown combo.
For starters, it sports a heart rate monitor and is waterproof so that you can track your swims as well. This has been a feature of various Fitbit devices for a number of years, detecting your movement patterns through the night to determine your duration and quality of sleep - with sleep phases recorded in the app. This is a huge deal, because all of those metrics are so deeply intertwined.
Stay tuned for a full review of both once we get review units in.
