Colombia stun France with comeback win

Colombia's midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero celebrates after scoring a goal during the friendly football match between France and Colombia at the Stade de France, in Saint-Denis, on the outskirts of Paris, on March 23, 2018.

In what proved to be the most shocking result on the night of the worldwide friendlies, Colombia came back from a two-goal deficit to beat France in their own backyard.

Les Bleus opened a 2-0 advantage courtesy of goals by Olivier Giroud and Thomas Lemar before losing their composure at the Stade de France, less than three months before the World Cup in Russian Federation.

The hosts took the lead with their first meaningful attack of the night as Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud capitalised on a blunder from his former Arsenal teammate David Ospina to break the deadlock in the 11th minute.

Samuel Umtiti made a shaky error in the penalty box at the business end of the game and fouled Jose Izquierdo.

The speed of France's wide players caused plenty of problems for Colombia early on, and it was no surprise to see the opening goal come from an overlapping run down the left from Lucas Digne.

Lemar doubled the lead 15 minutes later at the end of a delightful counter-attack with Griezmann playing a lovely backheel pass to Mbappe, who teed up his old Monaco team-mate to rifle into the right-hand corner from inside the penalty area.

But France lacked focus and two minutes later, Hugo Lloris misjudged Muriel's cross, which found the back of the net at the far post.

The goal seemed to shock the hosts, who suddenly looked uncertain on the ball and survived two close calls through Muriel before Falcao buried his side's second just past the hour mark. "We failed to be up to high-level standards in the second half", he said.

The visitors were more active in the second half and Falcao beat Lloris in the 62nd minute as he latched onto a cross from James Rodriguez.
