Drew, who will be playing Cagney to Hurd's Lacey in the pilot, took to Twitter on Tuesday to celebrate her new gig.
Written by Bridget Carpenter and directed by Rosemary Rodriguez, the new Cagney & Lacey will follow the two female police detectives and friends who keep the streets of Los Angeles safe. She is the partner and protégé of Hurd's Lacey, the more experienced half of the duo and an accomplished athlete. Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly, respectively, starred as the title characters in CBS' 1981-88 original series and three 1990s TV-movies, which were set in NY.
CBS TV Studios co-produces Cagney & Lacey with MGM Television.
The original series won two Emmy Awards for the Best Drama and six Best Actress in a Drama Series awards - four for Daly and two for Gless.
In another tweet on Wednesday, March 14, Drew told fans she is "gonna go on silent for a few weeks" to "focus".
The women-centric show is only one of the three revivals set to air on CBS for the 2018-19 season.
Drew, who plays April Kepner on Grey's Anatomy, confirmed her impending departure from the show Thursday. She is repped by LINK Entertainment, Innovative Artists and attorney Alex Kohner.
Brushing aside the question of whether the world needs a "Cagney & Lacey" reboot, you could argue this is an upgrade for both actresses. Evil Dead, is with APA and TMT Entertainment Group.
