With StarCraft having now been a part of the collective consciousness for 20 years, the video game publisher and developer Blizzard has decided that a celebration is in order by giving fans of its games several free crossover items.
It has been almost 20 years since the popular real-time strategy game StarCraftreleased for PC. Fans will even get skins just by watching the stream.
StarCraft II players who log in after March 6 will receive a special user interface skin for each of the game's three races. From March 27th to April 7th, logging into Heroes of the Storm will grant you 20th Anniversary portraits for Protoss, Terran, and Zerg. Players logging in from March 6 to April 3 will also acquire a Portrait and a Decal.
Diablo 3 - Log in to Diablo 3 after March 6 to receive Dominion's Revenge, a fearsome Battlecruiser-themed Pet.
Blizzard Celebrates StarCraft Anniversary With Free Crossover Items
Meanwhile, Hearthstone players will be able to win three packs from the Kobolds & Catacombs set by playing a StarCraft-inspired Tavern Brawl, which will run from March 21 to March 25. It's a pre-infestation Ghost Kerrigan, due to the difficulties in creating a skin that retains Widowmaker's typical outline rather than looking like Mercy (as Queen of Blades Kerrigan, the form most people know, has large bone wings), and because pre-infestation Kerrigan was a Ghost, and Widowmaker already has a skin of the other famous Ghost, Nova.
Admittedly, some of these offers are better than others. I'm particularly excited for the Sarah Kerrigan Ghost skin for Widowmaker in Overwatch.
The big Overwatch announcement recently has been Brigitte: here's who she is and what she does. Outside of the games, Blizzard will also release some new content at the end of March, including an Anniversary Stream on March 30th and 31st. Blizzard is saying that some of our favorite StarCraft personalities will celebrate the anniversary with a special event on Twitch. The actual anniversary is on March 31st, meaning this whole month is going to be littered with Starcraft celebrations of all sorts.
StarCraft, which Blizzard introduced to the world on March 31, 1998, is soon turning 20 years old.
