BBC to launch dance format with Simon Cowell's Syco

Are you looking forward to seeing another dance talent show?

Audiences should expect "dramatic auditions, incredible challenges and remarkable live performances as dancers from across the nation swing, swirl and sashay onto the stage each week in the hope of being crowned the victor", according to the BBC press release.

The media mogul has struck his first deal with Beeb for the new Saturday night dance series which will bag a prime-time slot with the broadcaster.

Simon Cowell's about to switch from ITV to BBC when it comes to entertaining the weekend masses, with a brand new reality dance show.

Cheryl, Jordan Banjo, Matthew Morrison, Alesha Dixon and Strictly star Oti Mabuse are among those celebs reported to have been involved in the pilot.

SyCo will team up with the BBC to, unsurprisingly, search Britain for the greatest dancer, in a series that'll likely take a similar format to other popular shows he's masterminded, such as X Factor and Britain's Got Talent. The record industry executive has always been keen to crack a commission for the BBC, previously having been in talks over entertainment formats as well as scripted series.

The 8 x 60-minute entertainment series will feature talent from around the world - from a variety of dance styles - who compete against one another in the hopes of being named the UK's greatest dancer.

The BBC's Controller of entertainment commissioning, Kate Phillips, said: "With the continued success of Strictly Come Dancing, the BBC is undoubtedly the home of dance".

'I can't wait to work with Syco and Thames to uncover the talent out there and let our audience critique and celebrate the nation's unsung dance heroes'.

"There are some spectacular moments and we are beyond thrilled to have secured this commission over fierce competition", he added.

The Greatest Dancer has been commissioned for BBC One. He called the dance audition "some of the most jaw dropping, heartfelt and moving" tryouts he has seen.
