Music streaming company Spotify Technology S.A. has launched its service in Israel on Monday at a press conference in Tel Aviv. That is a pick up of 2 million new subscribers, or 5.6%, since February. Apple's senior vice president of internet software and services, Eddy Cue, passed along the latest stats at the annual SXSW in Austin, Texas.
The service is free for the first month and then is R59.99 per month after the trial for the premium membership. The service, like most of its competitors, costs $9.99 per month for an individual plan or $14.99 per month for a family subscription accessible by up to six users. Spotify offers a free tier of service that is supported by ads.
In addition to the 35 million songs already available on Spotify, it is also building up a collection of Israeli music and is already working with a range of local artists.
Spotify is expected to go public on the New York Stock Exchange in the coming weeks despite losing almost $1.5 billion in 2017. Based on the pricing of company stock traded on private markets, the company, launched in 2008 and headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, is valued at $23.4 billion.
