The All Progressives Congress (APC), today 5 March, commended the former President Olusegun Obasanjo for the legacy left behind, saying it had continued to inspire good governance on the African continent after so many years. "Baba, please slow down, you're not getting younger anymore; we are not saying Baba should be indoors because he would die, but while you're doing something, please slow down because we still want to have you around for many years".

The two-time Nigerian leader who is marking his 81st birthday, said the early death of his parents and their failure to enjoy the fruits of the sacrifice they made while raising him continues to make him sad.

Obasanjo thanked God for keeping him alive, and also thanked his aides and every other person working with him for contributing to his success in life.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whose platform Obasanjo was elected President for two terms of four years each, has congratulated former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his 81 years celebration and described him as an outstanding nationalist; a courageous and dedicated leader, who has made immeasurable sacrifices towards the development, stability and growth of the nation.


"If I had known what this is involved, I wouldn't have torched it with the longest stick in the world. I do not believe God had created bad situation for Nigeria, or any particular country in Africa". "I do not believe God had created a bad situation for Nigeria or any country in Africa".

"But if not that you're able to lift up my hand when I was getting exhausted, those who said, when we started, that it's a job that will never be completed, they would have been proved right but for your help". "If things are not going right, we must blame ourselves", he said.

Amosun further described Obasanjo as a phenomenon, who was a gallant soldier, astute engineer and consistent statesman, adding that his sterling leadership qualities and administrative acumen, have been of great benefit to Nigeria, the worldwide community and mankind in general.

He said, "He (Obasanjo) can get water out of the stone". As you celebrate your new age, I join your family, friends and associates to wish you many happy returns!
