Odisha Man hurls shoes at CM Naveen Patnaik BJP flag recovered

They accused BJP of being desperately adopting violent means. Naveen Patnaik, as usual, was calm and confident at the meeting and during a six-km road show at Barpali and Kumbhari.

The youth who hurled the slippers was identified as Karthik Meher; a BJP flag and an I-card recovered from his person.

BJP's star campaigner Union minister Smriti Zubin Irani is scheduled to campaign on Tuesday.

His alert ssecurity personnel however, prevented the attack.

The Police investigation is on to ascertain his political affiliation.

BJD dalit cell convener Bishsu Das alleged, "The youth nabbed in the incident is a BJP worker of Padampur".


BJD campaign for party candidate Ritarani Sahu was led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who addressed public meetings at Kalangapali and Bijepur.

Meher, however, refused to reveal the name of the instigator.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, too, campaigned for BJP candidate Ashok Panigrahi for the third consecutive day, and appealed to people to dislodge the BJD government for the sake of overall development of the region.

BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma, however, rubbished the allegations and said that BJD is not ready to accept the public anger it is facing for its non-performance in past 17 years.

"We are following Gandhian ideology of peace and non-violence while the saffron party believes in goondaism and hooliganism", he added.
