Vardy records Premier League first with goal against Man City

City have lost four of their six Premier League home matches against Leicester.

Leicester responded well, and the match turned into an entertaining, end-to-end contest for the first half hour, a pleasant change from most City matches, which typically involve their opponents putting 11 men behind the ball, merely hoping not to lose.

"An authentic legend of this club", said Guardiola of his prolific Argentine striker.

Everton moved into the top half thanks to a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace, all three goals coming in the second half. Sergio is like this, he has a special talent in the box. We needed it. In Burnley we missed a lot of chances and today after the second, and especially the third, we were there.

With his latest goal, Vardy notched up his fifth goal against Guardiola in all competitions - the most for any player. He has also contributed an impressive two goals and four assists from central defence, making him a top attacking threat.

Sergio Aguero however returned from the dugout with one thing at the back of of his mind and duly unleashed his predatory instincts with four stupendously taken goals.

His running caused all sorts of problems for City and on one such instance, Vardy caught Nicolas Otamendi's tame pass and was through on goal. "We played against a great team and we need to look forward now and prepare for our next game with confidence".

Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez has slammed the "completely untrue" reports claiming he refused to play for the club after his deadline-day move to Manchester City was blocked.

And Puel claimed both he and the Algeria global will not focus their efforts on the rest of the season without any issues.

Puel said: "He maintained a good level, a good fitness, alone and it was important he came back quick".

"The most important thing is that he came back to the training session, to the game", he told BBC Sport.

The 26-year-old had not trained with his team-mates since Manchester City launched a bid to sign him at the end of the January transfer window. Riyad came back. He perhaps made a mistake but it's important to have our best players with us.
