Serena Williams: Baby Alexis watches mom at Fed Cup

The 36-year-old originally wanted to play at last month's Australian Open

For Kvitova, who got the ball rolling for the Czechs on Saturday with a hard-fought win over Viktorija Golubic, this weekend marked her return to the Fed Cup for the first time since being injured in a knife attack at her home in 2016.

Proving once again that she is one of the greatest athletes in history, the 23-time Grand Slam victor made her post-baby competitive comeback Sunday at the Fed Cup in Asheville, NC, playing a doubles match with her superstar sister, Venus, just five months after giving birth.

The 36-year-old played her first competitive match since winning her 23rd Grand Slam title at the 2017 Australian Open before taking a break from the sport as she gave birth to her daughter Alexis Olympia last September. "Or I'll get angry about the crying, then sad about being angry, and then guilty, like, 'Why do I feel so sad when I have a handsome baby?' The emotions are insane". "I feel like that's a very good step in the right direction".

"I didn't know what to expect".

Unfortunately, Serena and younger sister Venus lost their doubles match to Holland's Demi Schuurs and Lesley Kerkhove. "I didn't expect to.have that much power on my serves, even though they didn't go in", said Williams.

Serena Williams' personal cheering squad couldn't be more adorable.

"It was extremely extraordinary to be out here with Venus and we're so upbeat Team USA won today", Williams said after the match. "It was hard. It was the first time for me". "Or I'll get angry about the crying, then sad about being angry, and then guilty, like, 'Why do I feel so sad when I have a handsome baby?' The emotions are insane".

Ohanian was a doting father, carrying their 5-month-old bundle of joy during the match.

Serena was understandably far from her best in her return to competition but walked away feeling upbeat. "The pressure you feel, the incredible letdown every time you hear the baby cry".

Despite having not played a competitive singles match since last year's Australian Open final, which she won, she is still ranked 22 in the world by the Women's Tennis Association.
