Ruben Semedo's Agent Insists Valencia Defender Has Been Set-Up Following Latest Arrest

Ruben Semedo's Agent Insists Valencia Defender Has Been Set-Up Following Latest Arrest

"The alleged kidnapping never took place, there was no kidnapping and no torture, it was not Ruben's gun that was found in his house".

The news came following reports he had threatened to cut off his alleged victim's finger and beat him with a baseball bat - before shooting at him twice without hitting him as he managed to escape.

Police seized a firearm at the scene that is believed to have been used in the incident near Valencia, which has been linked to a dispute over money.

The complainant alleges that he was locked in a room after being immobilised and tied down, whilst Semedo and the accused two other men - broke into his apartment and stole various personal items.

The Portuguese centre-back has been charged with "tying up, beating and detaining a man" along with two other men at his home in the city of Valencia.

Villarreal have opened disciplinary proceedings against Semedo, who joined them from Sporting last summer but has been sidelined since thigh surgery in December.

"The judge is investigating him on suspicion of crimes of attempted homicide, wounding, threats, unlawful detention, illegal possession of a gun and robbery with violence".

The court, the Tribunal Superior de Justicia de la Comunidad Valenciana, told BBC Sport: "The court of Lliria has ordered provisional detention, without bail for Villarreal player Ruben Semedo".

Semedo's arrest is the third time he has been detained by police since joining Villarreal in the summer, following attacking a man with a glass bottle after an incident in a nightclub, as well as threatening someone with a gun.
