Plateau Utd win, MFM draw — CAF Champions League

It was contrasting fortunes for all the three Nigerian club sides competing in CAF club competitions yesterday.

NPFL champions Plateau United made a winning debut in the CAF Champions League after they smashed past Eding Sport of Cameroon 3-0 at home today.

Similarly, in Bamako, debutants, Mountain of Fire and Miracle FC secured an encouraging 1-1 result against Malian side, AS Real Bamako who forced them to a draw in the first leg of the CAF Champions League qualifiers.

Plateau United under former Nigerian global, Kennedy Boboye were too much for their opponent to put smiles on the faces of football loving Nigerians to make the return leg in two weeks time a lesser task.

Away in Mali, MFM FC grabbed a vital away draw goal in the 1-1 draw with Real Bamako in their first leg preliminary round tie also played on Sunday.

The visitors' goalkeeper Ndjomo Ntiana was at his best to deny Plateau United their second of the day when he saved a thunderous shot from striker Abdulwahab Afolabi in 23th minute.

In the second half, very little changed until the dying stages of the game when Plateau United were able to get two quick goals.

Tosin Omoyele's spot kick was stopped by goalkeeper Ndjome Lionel, but Elijah Oghene was within the area to slot in the rebound and put Nigeria in the front seat.

Sunday Ingbede scored the second goal in the 86th minute, before Raphael Ayagwa set up substitute Joshua Obaje for the third at the death.

They got off to a dream start after 15 minutes when Akinyemi Nojeem netted the club's first continental goal against the run of play. A lead which they protected up to the half time break.

The Uyo-based team began their campaign in Uyo on a losing note on Sunday, by losing 1-2 in the first round, first leg match against Hawks of Gambia.
