Officials Investigating Possible Cyberattack At Pyeongchang Winter Olympics

Kim Jong-un invites South Korean president Moon Jae-in to Pyongyang for summit

On Friday, Moon pointed to the joint Korean women's hockey team - an Olympic first - as a starting point.

He was referring to the North Korean leader's invitation for Moon to visit the North.

North Korea conducted its largest nuclear test past year and said it had developed a missile capable of carrying a warhead to the United States.

A senior administration official aboard Pence's airplane also told reporters that South Korea and Japan "are solidly with our alliance and the need to continue and intensify economic sanctions".

When he was returned to the USA, he had horrific brain injuries which his family attributed to him being tortured by the Kim Jong Un's regime.

The rival countries did send representatives to the opening ceremonies, with US vice-president Mike Pence and North Korea's ceremonial leader Kim Yong Nam both in attendance.

"We will continue to intensify our maximum pressure campaign until North Korea takes concrete steps for complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization", Pence said, calling on South Korea to work in tandem. North Korea's treatment of his son, he said, "is their standard ― that's the way they do business".

The response was seen as meaning that there should first be progress on efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear standoff, such as talks between the United Sates and the North, before what would be a third inter-Korean summit takes place.

Possible concessions would include a USA agreement to further delay military drills, and for North Korea to hold off further weapons tests and agree to pursue denuclearization talks.

However, some experts argue that while Kim Yo-jong's visit may lay out the foundation for smoother inter-Korean ties after the PyeongChang Olympics, it is too early to link it to a summit.

On his way to Asia earlier this week, the USA vice president told reporters he was not seeking direct talks with North Korean officials, "but we'll see what happens".

"I feel incredibly honored to be here in Korea competing for the United States and I'm so proud to be representing the LGBTQ community alongside this awesome guy!"

Kim Eui-kyeom, South Korean president's spokesman, said at a news conference in Seoul on Saturday that the North Korean delegation delievered the invitation letter at a landmark high-level meeting at the presidential palace in Seoul.

South Korea has been using the Pyeongchang Games to break the ice with the reclusive North, which has been trading nuclear threats with the United States recently. "We get along personally, so I believe that Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un, if they talked, they'd probably get along".

"To see it finally happen, it really did not only give me goosebumps, but I think the whole public and I guess the entire world", said Bach.
