AURORA | Police have released few details about a man shot dead by an Aurora police officer during a traffic stop near Smoky Hill Road and South Mobile Way late Saturday night.
Police said unnamed officers were conducting a traffic stop at about 11:30 p.m. and approached an adult male in his vehicle.
The man was taken to University of Vermont Medical Center where he later died.
Police say, the shooting occurred after a traffic stop on the southbound side of the interstate in Bolton at approximately 3:51pm.
The shooting happened in Bolton between exit 11 in Richmond and exit 10 in Waterbury. It is expected that the interstate in that area will remain reduced to one lane for an "extended period", police said.
Both the crime scene search team and major crime unit were brought to the scene, police said, and the investigation was in the "early stages" Sunday evening.
Officials have not released the victim's name.
They have not yet said what led to the shooting.
