Flyers acquire goalie Petr Mrazek in trade with Red Wings

Patrick, Mrazek Lead Flyers to 4th Straight Win

The Flyers had no interest in Mrazek last week, when the Red Wings asked for a third-round pick.

Meanwhile, backup goalie Michal Neuvirth was forced to leave the Flyers' game against the New York Rangers on Sunday due to a lower-body injury.

Last year, it was reported that Red Wings management was displeased with Mrazek's attitude, which led them to exposing him in the Vegas expansion draft - though he did not get selected by the Golden Knights. If the Flyers advance to the Eastern Conference Final in the playoffs and Mrazek wins six playoff games, the pick becomes a second-round pick.

Mrazek would not be a long-term play for the Flyers as the Czech-goaltender is a restricted free agent after this season.

General manager Ron Hextall had been searching for the right option to stabilize the position, as the Flyers are third in the Metropolitan Division with a 30-19-10 record. The Flyers did not announce anything regarding Neuvirth's injury, but the assumption is that it is serious enough for the Flyers to make a deal of this magnitude.

The Petr Mrazek era in Detroit officially came to a close around 10 p.m. on Monday night. The Red Wings have the fourth-fewest point total in the East and are looking to move more players before next week's trade deadline. He beat out Jimmy Howard for the starting job prior to the 2015 postseason, and would hold start for Detroit in the 2016 playoffs as well.

The Red Wings and Flyers remain in contact. The team didn't update his status before making the trade.

Mrazek was 72-and-58 with a 2.60 goals-against-average over five-plus seasons in Detroit.

This year, he has a 2.83 goals against average and a.910 save percentage in 40 games. Over his six-year National Hockey League career, Mrazek has played for the only the Red Wings.
