Florida school shooting death toll reaches 17 as gunman is named

Florida school shooting suspect linked to white supremacist group: ADL

Nikolas Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder after a school shooting in Parkland, Florida, on Wednesday, February 14, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office jail's online records. "It's a horrific situation", Broward Country Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie told reporters.

Cruz was armed with an AR-15-style rifle and had multiple ammunition magazines when he surrendered to officers in a nearby residential area, police said. "There really are no words."Twelve of the dead were killed inside the school building, two others just outside, one more on the street and two other victims died of their injuries at a hospital, Israel said".

CNN reported that the gunman tried to disguise himself by blending in with students who were running away from the school but was spotted and taken into custody, quoting law enforcement sources.

Cruz was apprehended by police some two hours after he began opening fire at the high school.

Cruz was known at school as having problems, according to several witnesses interviewed by local media.

He added Cruz knew the layout of the school and had some knowledge of security procedures through participating in fire drills. Live television footage showed emergency workers who appeared to be treating the wounded on sidewalks.

The gunman was eventually captured and 19-year-old student Nikolas Cruz has been arrested as the main suspect.

"I think we spoke with you in the past about a complaint that you made about someone making a comment on your YouTube channel", the agent said in the message, which Bennight provided to BuzzFeed News.

President Donald Trump says Wednesday's mass shooting turned a Florida school into a "scene of bad violence, hatred and evil".

"Aside from my previous post to address a serious matter, I issue my condolences to the families that lost anyone in that shooting that occurred in Broward today", wrote the former Capitol Records artist.

"No child, no teacher should ever be in danger in an American school", he said.
