Detroit officer shot, suspect barricades himself in home

A male officer was shot Sunday night during a barricaded gunman situation on Detroit's east side, police said.

WDIV reports that police were called to Lamont Street around 10:20 p.m. following a report about shots being fired.

He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

When officers arrived, someone opened fire.

FOX 2 was told the suspect does suffer from a mental illness and told police he would not go down without a fight.

Police now have a large area near E. Outer Drive and Ryan closed off.

Two people are dead and two others injured including a police officer following a shooting in Detroit.

The man suffered non-life threatening injuries. He does have seven guns that are registered to him.

Police are also dealing with a second shooter.

Detroit Assistant Police Chief Arnold Williams says the gunman has a history of mental illness.

Detroit Police, Michigan State Police, and border patrol agents are all on scene.
