Broncos LB Miller: Cousins 'may take us over the sting'

Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller was clear Wednesday while making the media rounds ahead of the Super Bowl in Minnesota: He would love to have Kirk Cousins as the team's starting quarterback next season.

Swearinger also sent out a series of tweets last night that praised Fuller for his slot corner play in addition to calling the trade a "tough one". They wanted to negotiate a long-term contract extension with their free-agent quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, but had no leverage.

Their pitch: No team outside Denver needs a quarterback more than the Cardinals, who don't have one under contract in 2018 in the wake of Carson Palmer's retirement.

Theismann said defense could end up being the first thing Cousins looks at "because, believe me, defenses bail you out of a lot of bad situations".

That's the hard choice that the Jets now face. This gives Mike Maccagnan a shot at whoever he wants.

Fuller recorded 67 tackles and had four interceptions last season with the Redskins. But by the Jets' low standards, those numbers would be a remarkable upgrade.

If the Jets signed Cousins, years of quarterback angst would finally go out the window. With the quarterback question finally solved, the Jets could focus on other areas and quickly build a contender. Teams have seen him play well in the NFL. Smith had a strong 2017 season with the Chiefs, arguably the best of his career, and he has something Cousins doesn't have: extensive playoff experience. The expectation: more than $30 million a year.

The Browns were in contact with the Chiefs regarding Smith, so it's not a stretch to think that they'll be interested in Cousins.

Now, Cousins will have a chance to earn his big contract with another team.

The far less expensive option would be to draft a quarterback.

This trade means two things: 1. Browns take Sam Darnold with the first overall pick, and Giants take Josh Rosen with the second. One of them could be the next Ryan Leaf - a flat-out bust.

Their pitch: Like the Browns, the Jets have more than enough cash to meet the high financial bar that will certainly be set in the pursuit of Cousins.

Kirk Cousins was seated at a table in the Mall of America food court Wednesday when two reporters from NY approached. The kind of quarterback the Jets could win with. They have a new head coach and no quarterbacks on the roster.

The Colts now hold the 3rd overall pick in this year's NFL Draft, and there's always the lingering possibility that a quarterback starved team could trade up to the "three spot" in order to get the guy they truly want starting behind center for the next decade instead of other teams' prospect leftovers.
