Paul apologised for posting video which was said to have contained a suspected suicide. Paul doesn't appear to have many fans on Yahoo Newsroom, where he's been largely blasted for the video as well as his fame, but some see another side: "Material may be tasteless by the standards of the majority but that doesn't mean it's correct to crush freedom of speech".
Following yesterday's news that YouTube has cut ties with Logan Paul in the wake of his controversial "Japanese suicide forest" video, the company has confirmed that all of Paul's projects are on hold indefinitely. Additionally, "We will not feature Logan in season 4 of "Foursome" and his new Originals are on hold," said YouTube.
YouTube's delayed action came only after increased public pressure to police its site more effectively.
In an open letter published on Twitter earlier this week, YouTube said it was "upset by the video that was shared last week", saying that "suicide is not a joke, nor should it ever be a driving force for views".
Paul has not posted any videos in the past week, saying he was "taking time to reflect".
Amid the Paul flap-up and other brand safety concerns, YouTube is reportedly reimagining its Google Preferred ad package, and will henceforth vet channels using human and technological moderation.
But Kyncl told reporters that he felt that while YouTube has had to deal with situations like this, he didn't feel it was all that different from what other networks have had to deal with in terms of their talent, and that these situations haven't changed the ways in which they may vet creators going forward.
YouTube was criticised for moving slowly in response, taking almost two weeks to take action. PewDiePie, the biggest star on YouTube, brought in some flack to the platform previous year as a result of anti-semitic elements in his videos. Even in the case of Logan Paul, the video was taken down by him voluntarily. The move is said to be a part of Google Preferred, a premium advertising programme.
